It’s the lighter version of the quotation “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.” Albom does know how to make it sound more affectionate.
Let us not underestimate how hard it is to be compassionate. Compassion is hard because it requires the inner disposition to go with others to place where they are weak, vulnerable, lonely, and broken. But this is not our spontaneous response to suffering. What we desire most is to do away with suffering by fleeing from it or finding a quick cure for it.
All that is gold does not glitter, From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
